One Day Monday – Diving in Fiji

Whenever someone mentions Fiji,  they automatically grab my attention. I’ve never been, but I imagine it to resemble the tropics of Hawaii times 5. Back in middle school, when my family took a vacation to Oahu, I remember taking a walking tour where we learned about the history, culture, and traditions of the Fijians. At the time, the history lesson was a real snoozefest, and Fiji seemed too “off the grid” for me. But what did I know? I was 13 and probably too young to appreciate any of that stuff.

Ten years later, Fiji still seems off the grid to me, but it’s safe to say that I’m now more fascinated with their culture than any other. In my head, Fiji is the quietest, most remote destination out in the middle of the ocean so far away from the civilization I’m used to, and all of the islands are 100% beach which means water sports and activities are Fiji’s specialties.

After what I hope to be a great experience diving in the Great Barrier Reef, I’ll go for a second round in one of the most ideal scuba diving spots said to be home to the clearest water where you can see 40-50m below or in front of you and some peculiar sea creatures you might not find off the gold coast.

Have you ever gone diving in Fiji? What islands did you visit to do so? If you’ve scuba dived multiple times, how did diving in Fiji compare?
